Rice Owl training camp is in full swing so I’m going to make this quick. Here is your 3TT:
- Quote I think is appropriate at this time:
“A high tolerance for monotony is a decidedly underrated superpower.” – James “Iron Cowboy” Lawrence
James Lawrence ran fifty Ironman distance triathlons in fifty consecutive days in fifty different states. I heard him speak at Rice a few months ago. We’re a week into fall camp. Many of you have started camp, and the rest of you are starting soon. Training camp is a grind physically, but like completing 50 triathlons, it can be even more of a grind mentally. It’s easy to get bored repeating the same techniques, but that’s how one gets better. Keep your focus!
- Best thing I saw/read/tasted this week: “How Firefighters and Others Take Leaps of Faith.”
This is a summary of a study performed by management and organizational behavior experts here at Rice University. It’s about how organizations involved in high-stakes and dangerous enterprises create the necessary trust and culture that encourage members to take risks.
- Worst thing you’ll hear all week: I was on a podcast.
Ok, I really hope this isn’t the worst thing you’ll hear. I was a guest on the USA Football Coach and Coordinator Podcast, talking about my coaching background, overseas experiences, playing for the winningest coach in the history of college football, and what we’re trying to establish in the OL room at Rice. Give it a listen if you’re interested in any of those things.
