I’m late again, but it’s game week. I’ve been busy preparing for Prairie View. You can watch this evening at 6pm Central on ESPN+. Here’s what caught my eye this week.
- Most “OL” thing I witnessed: Bob Wylie’s stomach.
You probably saw this on Hard Knocks or Twitter. Bob Wylie is a longtime NFL O-line coach and the director of the infamous C.O.O.L. clinc — the top OL clinic in the country. I’ve had a couple of chances to meet and talk with the man in person, and he’s a character to say the least. He’s been coaching so long, his body has become synchronized to the snap count.

- Best Thing I tasted this week: Peli Peli
Peli Peli is a South African restaurant with a couple of locations in the Houston area. My wife was born and raised in South Africa, so we went to try it out. The chef grew up in the same area as my wife and the taste was authentic. My wife especially enjoyed the boerwors (a sausage) and the biltong (like South African game jerky, but softer). The biltong tasted just like what her dad would make after his hunts when she was young. It’s a little pricey, so save it for a big date.
- Best thing I read (speaking of food): This article about Houston’s food scene.
I moved to Houston from the Bay Area in California. The Bay has a reputation for it’s food culture, but it’s overrated. Houston is decidedly underrated. My wife and I have loved the restaurants here. GQ talks about how Houston has become the capital of gastronomic (and otherwise) cool in the South.
